In Vitro Fertilization

an advanced technique of assisted reproduction is now available in York, and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Doctor Robert Filer of the Fertility Center is pleased to offer the addition of IVF to our full complement of fertility services. All services can be obtained at our York, PA office. We provide compassionate patient focused care where one on one education is our focus.

IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)

involves ovulation induction, egg retrieval, fertilization and embryo growth and embryo transfer to the uterus.

Injections are given to stimulate multiple egg production. The ovulation induction process is monitored with blood estrogen levels and ultrasounds over approximately a 2 week period. The egg retrieval is performed by removing the eggs by using a vaginal ultrasound probe with a needle through the vaginal wall into the ovary. This procedure is done under conscious sedation in our office. Fertilization occurs by conventional insemination in a culture dish or by a technique called ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection). The embryo transfer is done on day 2-5 after the egg retrieval. The embryos are placed through the cervix into the uterine cavity using a small catheter. A pregnancy test occurs approximately 14 days after the egg retrieval.
