While May brings many happy things such as flowers blooming and warm weather, it can also be a heavy month staring down Mother’s Day if you’ve been struggling with infertility. But NAME, you don’t have to wait and stress as the holiday comes and then listen to everyone talking about being a mother. Be proactive about how you plan on getting through the week and the day, and you might fare better. Or at least manageably.
Have a Plan
Focus on others: You can put all of your energy into making this day special for your parents, grandparents, or any special figure in your life.
Skip family gatherings with children or pregnant relatives: if it’s too painful, it’s OK to take a rain check.
Be prepared for questions: Many restaurants or stores will have special items for mothers that day, so know what you’ll say if someone asks about something special.
Talk to a religious leader: if you go to church or temple around Mother’s Day, talk (or write an email) to your clergy member bringing up the topic of infertility, to make sure those who have trouble conceiving are not forgotten in the service.
Take time for just you: maybe forget about the holiday and take a day trip somewhere, or hide in the movie theater with some deep buckets of popcorn.
