Some nutrients can work together to help you increase fertility and decrease negative mental situations such as depression. Particularly leafy green vegetables, such as broccoli and spinach, are chock full of B Vitamins and folate, both of which are key elements in stabilizing fertility and your mental state. To make sure you’re getting enough, here’s a quick and easy recipe with some pasta and zesty lemon to add to any meal, or whip up on its own!
Lemon Broccoli Pasta Skillet
• 3 quarts water
• 1 tablespoon salt
• 1 ½ to 2 pounds fresh broccoli
• 1 pound rotini pasta
• 3-4 cups spinach
• 4 tablespoons butter
• 1 large lemon, zested and juiced
• 2 cloves garlic, crushed and minced
• ¼ or ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
• 1 cup Parmesan, plus more to garnish
• Olive oil, to garnish
• Salt and pepper to taste
• Fresh lemon wedges, to garnish
In a large skillet or pot, bring the water with salt added to a boil. In the meantime, trim the stems on your broccoli and cut down your florets. Add rotini and boil the pasta on high for 4 minutes. Add the broccoli, cover, and set a timer for 3 more minutes – keep the rolling boil during that time. After the timer beeps, drain the pasta and return everything to the pan. Stir in your spinach, and sprinkle the whole mixture with your lemon zest. Let the concoction sit for a few minutes as the spinach wilts.
Melt the 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add minced garlic and crushed red pepper and sauté for about 1 minute, until it smells good. Remove from the heat, adding 2 or 3 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice. Add this lemon butter mixture to your pasta and stir. Add the cup of parmesan cheese, drizzle a bit of olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
One of the glorious things about this recipe is its adaptability: you can use other veggies instead of broccoli or spinach, any type of pasta you like, or even another type of flavor instead of lemon, such as red wine vinegar. To make sure you get the green veg for your fertility and mental state though, make sure you have at least one leafy green item in it! This light recipe also helps you maintain a healthy body mass index, which can impact your fertility.
