As we find ourselves deep in the middle of the holiday season, if you don’t have a little one by your side (especially if you have that deep yearning for one), it can seem like such a burden to go through the motions of holiday traditions. Many family gatherings and things you did as a kid are aimed at, well, kids. Rather than wallow, maybe (after you allow yourself a small pity party, if you need it), this year you embrace the holidays. Sometimes adulting can be fun!
Just for You
Stay home by yourselves, watch your favorite movie, and take the dog for a long walk. Sleep in and eat Chinese, if that’s what you want to do. Have the relaxing kind of day you always want to have when weekends and holidays become crammed full.
Get your bake on. Use a family favorite recipe or a new Pinterest pin to make cookies, cake, pie, or even something fancy like flan!
Stay in your jammies and watch your favorite Christmas movies – some National Lampoon, Charlie Brown, and Rudolph mixed with popcorn make for a pretty good day!
Go fancy. Have a gourmet waffle and fruit breakfast, with espresso and drizzled maple syrup. And make a dinner worthy of a date night – steak, salmon, herbed potatoes, maybe some asparagus wrapped prosciutto
Open your doors to folks without family close by. Have a hodge-podge of people and a pot luck meal!
Lip-sync battle. This one is out there, but can result in hilarity. With whomever you do choose to spend time over the holidays, add a lip-sync battle into the mix, Jimmy Fallon style. You’ll probably cry, you’ll laugh so hard.
Plan a progressive dinner. Get together with friends and head to one house and then another for each course of the meal, maybe with some games or something thrown in as well!
We know the holidays can be lonely and stressful when you’re waiting and hoping for a little one. Try to make some time for you, and consider starting a tradition of your own this year!
