A Goal and a Journey
It’s a happy new year! Or perhaps not as happy as you hoped it would be without a little one on the way. Have you been wishing for a baby? Dreaming of another member of your family? If so, maybe you want to make a goal to learn as much as you can about the process, meet with a specialist, and find out what the best options are to create the family you’ve always wanted. Here are some facts to get you started:
You should talk to a specialist if you:
Are younger than 35 and have been trying to conceive for about a year
Are older than 35 and have been trying to have a baby for six months or more
Are more than 40 years old
Have irregular periods
Have a medical history involving chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or endometriosis
Have fibroids, or a history of gonorrhea or Chlamydia
Have a partner who has had groin surgery, mumps as an adult, chemotherapy, or radiation.
Infertility affects about 10 percent of all couples
About 35 percent of the time, the issue is with the woman’s fertility; another 35 percent of the time, it’s the man’s; the rest of the time, both partners contribute to the issue.
When you visit a fertility specialist, you’ll discuss your medical history and what further evaluations are needed to come up with a plan. Questions you’ll review include your ovulation schedule, if your fallopian tubes function normally, how your uterus looks, and if your partner’s sperm are average in number and functionality. After a diagnosis is reached, you’ll work on a treatment plan to guide your journey!
