It’s so easy for someone not going through what you’re facing to say, “You need to take care of yourself, it’s important.” And of course, you agree that it’s important, but sometimes it seems impossible to take care of yourself when your mental state or responsibilities are so intensely stressful.
The good news is that some changes you can make to improve your life will also help you improve your fertility, and provided some much-needed self care. They’re not secrets, but general habits we all could use some good reminding of.
Five Tips for You
Pay attention to your mood, and take steps to improve it. You know what things make you feel better – yoga, a walk outdoors, reading, your favorite music, etc. So plan time in your day to give yourself a lift – you’ll be glad you did!
Clear your schedule – say no to things to give yourself space. It’s so easy to be controlled by our schedule. Plan a personal day for yourself – but not to catch up on work or errands. Take an evening or afternoon to do something you want to do, or do nothing. Rest.
Reduce the clutter in your life. Whether it’s cleaning up your desk or office at work, or your car, or a room or closet in your home, you’ll feel more orderly and calm in general.
Change your work environment to be more inviting. Bring in a desk lamp instead of fluorescent lighting, or use a light that simulates sunshine – or even add some colored lighting to your office. Get up often and drink lots of water, and bring in some plants and maybe a diffuser for some sweet smells.
Make sure to unplug sometimes. Turn off your tablet or smartphone, the TV, everything. Read a book, without watching the clock or checking your texts. Go for a walk, sit in a coffee shop and people watch. If you like to shop, wander through the mall with a hot pretzel.
We recommend picking one of these and making it a regular practice in your life. It can really change how your days go from start to finish!
