Now and then it’s good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy.
The days following each holiday can seem bleak, but they don’t have to!
Think about it – it’s dark and cold outside, but your holiday to-do list is poof! Gone!
It’s the perfect time of year to hole up and get seriously cozy. Here’s what I like to do when I get home from a hectic day at work: Run in from the FREEZING cold air and take off my work clothes. Put on my most comfortable sweats, including my favorite slippers. Next, make my favorite hot beverage – usually for me it’s tea. Turn on our gas fireplace. Add in my favorite soothing music (right now it’s the Piano Guys or classic hymns), and settle into my favorite spot on the couch. And then, just sit. Maybe read a little of a book or an article I’ve been meaning to read. Maybe call a friend. Maybe even some meditation – emptying my mind of all the to-dos that live in it, and focus on breathing in, and out. In, and out. And again.
It’s relaxing, no? Especially after the holidays with shopping and wrapping and cooking and baking and decorating! Just sit.
This January, there are many cozy activities you can engage in to relax. A Netflix binge is not a bad idea. Eat some of those cookies you baked, maybe dipping them in hot chocolate. Dig out that book you’ve been meaning to read. Make a stew and let it simmer and fill your whole house with the tasty scent. Get under the covers and cuddle. And maybe while you’re cuddling... a little more grown-up fun can be a relaxing activity :) Believe it or not, around Christmas is one of the most common conception times. So take advantage of the peaceful post-holiday lull!
