Every life has a purpose. Share your story and you may help someone find their own.
The week is arriving.
Next week begins National Infertility Awareness Week, an initiative of RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association.
And I’m talking about it not just because it’s my passion and my vocation.
It’s also important to help dispel myths related to infertility.
Often, its talked about (in the media) as a problem only women face, even though infertility affects men and women equally. Or an age-related problem, when in fact, it can affect men and women of any age.
Infertility affects 1 in 8 people. That’s at least one person in your close circle of friends, and several more in your acquaintances. Sharing your (and our) infertility journeys helps every one of those who are also facing infertility to know they’re not alone.
It can also help to combine our voices so lawmakers consider making fertility treatment coverage a requirement in their states. Only 15 states currently offer coverage for fertility treatments. In states where that’s the case, fewer families have high-order multiples (triplets or higher), as they may be able to afford more treatment cycles and chances.
So how can you help spread awareness this April?
Talk about infertility with your friends and family. Share your story, or even just facts you know.
Write a letter to your representatives at the state and federal levels.
Volunteer for your local RESOLVE chapter.
Dedicate a Facebook status or tweet concerning infertility awareness.
And, most importantly, if you think you might have a medical issue affecting getting pregnant, make an appointment to come and see us. We can help! Or if you have a friend who’s facing infertility, maybe offer to come with them to an appointment to show support. Please schedule an appointment by calling 717-747-3099 or clicking on the button below.
